INTERVIEW
Markus Wuehl

Markus Wuehl is a current developer of Atari Lynx games.
He is based in Hockenheim, Germany.

MT> What inspired you to create a new game titles, and why specifically for the Lynx platform?
MW> Because I have had an Atari 800XL for a long, long time, I have basically 6502 assembler knowledge. In 1995 I had bought my first used Atari Lynx. Beginning with this time I have collected all Atari Lynx stuff. Randomly I have found Bastian Schick's homepage where I have found all things I need to programm the Lynx. And this extremly cheap! :-)

MT> Any humorous moments developing you could share with us?
MW> I have a lot of fun all the time programming the lynx. Because I meet some people we talk about the lynx programming, there we have had a funny time.

MT> Technically, what programming language did you use for your new Lynx titles, memory sizes, and specific hardware used in development?
MW>6502 Assembler. I use an IBM compatible Pentium based PC. You can use an Atari ST, too.

MT> SOKOMANIA is very similar to Nintendo's Boxy Boy, and Sega Genesis' Shove It! titles. Was it based or inspired from either of these titles?
MW>Because you can find Sokoban on any other videogame/computer system, I have done the game. Second I love the game.

MT> How long did it take you to create SOKOMANIA?
MW> 3 month. I think I have programmed the game very fast. I have collected experience by programming my first unfinished project called Puzzler2000. So I have the knowledge to create SokoMania! :-)

MT> Wow, 3 months is fast! Especially for a game with over 100 levels. How much time did you spend designing just the levels?
MW>Around 2 hours a day. More at weekends.

MT> So, was PUZZLER 2000 shelved, and then restarted after SOKOMANIA was completed? Or was Sokomania created while working on Puzzler 2000 simultaneously?
MW>Yes, I have programmed Puzzler2000 long before SokoMania. Because I haven`t so much fun on P2000 sometimes, I maked SokoMania.

MT> How collectable is SOKOMANIA – is there a limited run?
MW> I can produce cards at any time. So it's at this time not limited. Maybe in 1 or 2 years. ;)

MT> Have you tracked and listed the proud owners?
MW> No, because bigger dealers like Telegames, Wolf Gross, Spieleraum and Songbird Productions are selling the game, too.

MT> You state that Sokomania has "Soft/Hard Movement (switchable)". What exactly is this feature?
MW>On the cult game sokoban you can move the figure character to character. But some people have said, that a pixel scrolling (fine scrolling) for the figure would be much better. So I have made 2 modes (switchable) for the movement.

MT> What type of Game is PUZZLER 2000?
MW> A puzzle game like Puzzle Fighter on the Sony Playstation.

MT> When will PUZZLER 2000 be released?
MW> I don't know. Christmas 99, maybe in the year 2000. Why do you think I have named the game P2000??? :-)))
